Am Samstag hatte ich die Gelegenheit mit einer Freundin vom Stricktreff zwei Ausstellungen in Manchester zu besuchen. Beide waren fantastisch und total verschieden. Daher habe ich den Post in 2 Teile geteilt, dies ist Teil 1, Teil 2 findet ihr hier.
Ich gehe eigentlich selten in Ausstellungen dieser Art aber ich bin froh, vor meine Haustür eine Stadt zu haben, die ein vielseitiges Angebot an Veranstaltungen bietet.
Last Saturday I visited two art exhibitions in Manchester with a friend from Knit Group. Both exhibitions were fantastic and very different so I divided this post into 2 part. This is part 1, you can find part 2 here.
This isn’t something I do (or even want to do) every weekend but I am grateful for having a city full of such events at my door step.
Am Vormittag besuchten wir eine Ausstellung der Japanischen Künstlerin Yayoi Kusama (die bereits 94 Jahre alt ist!). Diese heißt “You, me and the balloons” und ist Teil des Manchester International Festivals. Wie der Name vermuten lässt ist diese Ausstellung eine Kollektion von Ballon-Skulpturen. Die Skulpturen sind aus einem Material, das mich Hüpfburgen erinnert und bestehen aus vielen Einzelteilen, die zusammengenäht wurden.
Der erste Raum bestand aus schwarz-gelben tentakelartigen Skulpturen, die sich sich zur Decke schlängeln. Der Boden, die Wände und die Decke sind in einem dazu passenden Muster bedruckt. Das war sowohl faszinierend als auch etwas überwältigend.
In the morning we went to an exhibition of the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama (who’s 94 years old!) named “You, me and the balloons” and is part of the Manchester International Festival. As the name suggests, this exhibition is a collection of balloon sculptures. They are made from a materials that reminds me of bouncy castles and consist of many individual pieces sewn together.
The first room was full of tentacle-like sculptures winding their way up to the ceiling. The floor, walls and ceiling are decorated with a matching print. This was both fascinating and a bit overwhelming.
Von dort ging es eine Treppe hoch auf eine Aussichtsplattform von der der Rest der Ausstellung sichtbar war. Manche der Skulpturen sind riesig und von der Plattform aus am besten zu sehen. Es gab Skulpturen, die Yoyoi als Mädchen darstellten – einer größeren (12m) und einer kleineren (4m), verschiedene Ballons, die von der Decke hingen, Wolken, auf die man sich legen und die Skulpturen aus einem anderen Blickwinkel sehen kann, eine Spiegelwand, die wieder einen anderen Blickwinkel bot, einen Riesenkürbis und weitere Tentakel, diesmal in pink und weiß. Letztere gefielen uns beiden besonders gut, es fühlte sich an, wie ein verwunschener Wald.
From there, stairs led up to a viewing platform from which you could see the rest of the exhibition. Some of the sculptures are huge and best visible from the platform. There were sculptures of Yoyoi as a girl – one larger (12m) and one smaller (4.5m), various balloons hanging from the ceiling, clouds on which you can lie and see the sculptures from a different angle, a mirror wall offering yet another viewing angle, a giant pumpkin and more tentacles, this time in pink and white. We both particularly liked the latter, they felt like walking in an enchanted forest.
